A Big Broncos Comeback
Last night on Monday Night Football, the Broncos played against the Chargers in San Diego The first few drives for each team stalled after a few plays, and they traded punts. On the third punt of the game, the Broncos returner muffed the punt, and the Chargers recovered near the 25-yard line.
The Broncos D held them to just a field goal there. On the ensuing kickoff, the returner fumbled it on the catch, then picked it up and ran out to the 15-yard line, only to have it knocked out again.The Chargers recovered there, and two plays later made it 10-0.
On the next possession for the Broncos, Eric Decker caught a ball and had a clear path to the end zone. Unfortunately, he tripped over himself and ended up with a 55-yard catch. Later in the drive, Manning the receiver had a miscommunication that resulted in a pick for the Chargers. They tacked on another 7 points before the end of the quarter, and made the score 24-0.
The Broncos got the ball to start the second half and drove down the field in 8 plays and scored their first touchdown of the game, making it 24-7. On the next possession for the Chargers, the runningback fumbled on 3rd down. The ball rolled past 2 Broncos defenders, and the Chargers fell on top of it for a first down. On the next play, the defense stripped Rivers, picked up the fumble and ran it back 65 yards for a touchdown, making the score 24-14.
The Broncos then got an interception and drove down the field and scored again, making it 24-21 in the fourth quarter. After a punt the Broncos had the ball back again and marched right down the field. Stokley made a great catch in the end zone to put the Broncos ahead for the first time in the game, 28-24. On the following possession, Rivers threw another interception. It was returned for a touchdown to put the game out of reach.
The final score was the Broncos 35, and the Chargers 24. It tied the record for the biggest comeback in NFL history.
